For some reason, you might have some difficulties using the VFace assets, here is a list of possible reasons and proposed debug solutions:
You can't Wrap properly your own mesh from our mesh:
- Check first the topology of the destination mesh, anything like non-manifold should be cleaned before any wrap or bake.
- Make sure to also mask or remove the mouth bag and eye sockets before wrapping (source mesh).
The bake isn't working, crashing, or stopping processing:
Try first to isolate the issue:
- Downsize by 2 or 3 the image file you're trying to transfer.
- Change its bit-depth to 16bit or 8bit.
- Try with another software like XNormal (free)
- If nothing works as expected, try with another random image and/or change the destination mesh.
While doing these tests, make sure to look at your Ram or Vram usage as well, most crashes you might experience will be due to the limits of your Ram.
The hardware you have on your machine is quite important for a baker to work properly. 32 bit images, and especially in 16k are really heavy to process.
I can't modify the original fully-calibrated Displacement map:
This displacement map has a 0 mid-value, meaning that the image contains negative values. To properly modify it, we strongly recommend using software capable of 32bit (native) editing such as Nuke, Natron, or equivalent.
Another way could be to use a 3D Paint application such as Mari (HDR mode/on) to avoid any clamping.
The transferred textures seem blurry:
- Check first your UV layout, distortion, stretches, and compressions that might be producing this. To do so, you can verify this with the help of a checker map. Try again to bake the texture to the new UV layout and see if it helped.
- Check also the sampling setting used for the bake, using sub/super-sampling can be beneficial as well.
- Finally, check the output resolution transferring the output in 4k from a 16k for instance will yield a major quality loss.
